Our hope in OneRefuge is to reimagine what community means. We seek to promote intentional, welcoming communities that walk alongside individuals and families that have been forced to leave their safety net behind. We believe friends will innately respond as needs arise and human beings flourish in communities where their gifts and strengths are recognized.
We aspire to renew the value of being good neighbors for each other. That may be through community centers where English learners come for language lessons and homework tutoring or where volunteers come to join a support team for families with special needs. We’ll strive to help our neighborhoods regenerate the supportive webbing that makes us all stronger and more connected.

Writing is often how the spiritual, emotional and mental processing of my experiences take shape into a reflective narrative. My hope is that, through sharing my own observations and convictions, I can bring my reader along with me in a way that both challenges them and affirms the voice inside that tells them something different than the loud din that often swirls around us.
By trade I have been both an accountant and a software developer/analyst. I’d like to believe that there are algorithms to solve the problems that plague our imperfect world, but the older I get the more I realize the human heart will always be a wildcard. It is both predictable and unpredictable. In the end, it is always loving our neighbor as ourself that is both the answer and the hardest thing to do - especially when our neighbor has been the cause of wounds or the canvas our fears are projected on to.
Now, my vocation is that of a bridge builder and connector of amazingly brave and resourceful people. Practically, that is through our fledgling non-profit called OneRefuge and by helping people in the greater Seattle area rebuild community for refugees that resettle in our region. The over-arching hope is that people meeting, truly seeing each other and sharing their own narratives will cause positive systemic changes in our social and religious cultures, where love and inclusion flourishes and empowers everyone involved. My example is Jesus the messiah, the peacemaker, the speaker of truth and justice and one who loved perfectly and sacrificially beyond our understanding or imagination.
